Graduate Assistant: Onboarding Request Form

*NOTE: This form is the exclusive means of submitting new Graduate Assistants for hire. This form is ONLY to be completed by acting GA Supervisors, Time Approvers. and/or Budget Managers. Please direct all questions via email to vsugradasst@valdosta.edu

    •           Supervisor is responsible for approving time.

    • Types of Graduate Assistants

    Administrative Assistant: Most common, performs tasks important to daily office functions
    Research Assistant: Primary responsibilities are to work directly with faculty doing research-based tasks
    Lab Assistant: Students assigned to aid with lab setup, proctoring, answering questions, helping with Labs
    Teaching Assistant: Students assigned instructional duties in a course under the supervision of experienced faculty members.
    Housing Assistant: GAs assigned to work with campus residence halls
    Instructor of Record: This position is different from a TA in that they are fully responsible for their own courses (Teaching, Lesson Planning, Grading, etc.)
  • Check this box if this position will be remote, and requirements 1 through 3 below are met.

    • There are three requirements for a remote GA position to receive Graduate School approval. 

    1. The student is required to be in a fully online graduate program.
    2. The job assignment must be conducive to remote work. 
    3. The Dean of the College must approve the remote position.
    4. The supervisor will email the GA job description to vsugradasst@valdosta.edu for review by the Graduate School.
